Pauline Menczer clinches 2002 ASP World Qualifying Series
Thursday, December 5, 2002: Today Pauline Menczer won the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) 2002 World Qualifying Series. Her finish in the 4-Star rated Turtle Bay Resort Women's Pro secured her seed in the 2003 elite World Championship Tour. This marks the 16th consecutive year that she has qualified for the WCT. Following a decisive victory at the U.S. Open in Huntington Beach, California earlier this year, Menczer solidified her lead with another victory in France the following month.
Menczer, who won the world amateur title in 1988, and professional crown in 1993, proved that she is still a force to be reckoned with. Despite her age, 32, and being ailed with severe arthritis throughout her career, Menczer continues to demonstrate why she is one of the best surfers in history and an inspiration to all.
