Pauline Menczer wins Billabong T-Street Pro
Los Angeles, Calif., October 1, 2000: After not surfing for four weeks, Pauline Menczer returned to the water and won the Billabong T Street Pro in San Clemente, California. While free surfing in France, Menczer was seriously injured when struck in the face by a surfboard. Recovering from surgery in Europe, Menczer focused on the formidable task of winning the next contest without having adequate time to recuperate or prepare.
"I went for a couple of surfs just days prior to the event and was feeling really sluggish. I was totally lethargic and concerned about my chances of doing well in the contest." said Menczer in a post event interview. "I got up really early the morning of the event and went surfing. Every thing just clicked." Menczer stated that, while her nose continues to cause her problems and limit her ability to train, she feels good about her prospects in Hawaii.
